To Life!™ -- BMI Calculator
As you begin, and continue to work in our To Life!™ course, it is helpful to know your BMI -- your Body Mass Index number. A BMI is calculated based on your height and weight.
What's the importance of a BMI? A high BMI is related to a greater chance of having other medical problems:
- a BMI of 25 or greater indicates a person is overweight
- a BMI of only 27 means an increased risk of a heart attack for individuals who are overweight and also have any combination of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or elevated cholesterol
- a BMI of 30 or greater means a person is obese and is at a statistically greater risk of early heart disease (even if you do not have any other medical problems)
There are two ways to go about getting your BMI.
The simplest is to use this chart (choose your height on the far left side, find your approximate weight on that line, then look to the bolded number in the first row in that same column). The bolded number is your BMI.
