About To Life!™

The
To Life!™ Lifesfyle Change and Weight Loss Program is a minimum one-year
multidisciplinary treatment for obesity and associated co-morbidities. To Life! is a program for
patients interested in non-surgical weight loss, and for those headed for surgery who must show
their insurance carrier they have participated in a comprehensive lifestyle change program. We
also treat an increasing number of post lap-band and gastric bypass patients who have lost weight and then regained much more than they ever suspected could happen. We can also customize a program for patients who need rapid, medically supervised weight loss to better prepare them for other surgical procedures (joint replacement, back surgery, etc.). The basic To Life! Program includes:

Initial office evaluation

  • Medical history
  • Cardiovascular/obesity focused physical examination
  • Laboratory and EKG
  • Body composition and resting energy expenditure calculations
  • Depression, binge eating disorder, and sleep apnea screening
  • Prescription medication option discussed, if appropriate (Meridia or Xenical)

To Life! Saturday Workshop (tuition includes repeating the workshop within the first year)

  • All day session taught by Dr. Pincus and staff
  • 100 page proprietary workbook on nutrition, exercise, mind-body connections
  • Personal plan for 1 lb. per wk weight loss (balanced ADA-AHA type approach)
  • Great heart healthy food!
  • Hands on instruction and group work in label reading, healthy recipe substitutions,
    supermarket product selection, pulse taking,target heart rate, weight training, pedometer
    use, and keeping food records.
  • Written "promise sheets" re: goals for nutrition, exercise and motivation.

Follow-up monthly doctor visit

  • Weight and vital signs check. Support group attendance reviewed
  • One on one personal coaching
  • Referrals made as needed for additional nutritional andlor behavioral coaching
  • Workshop "promises" continually reviewed and updated
  • Weight loss medication refilled (if support group attendance requirements met)
  • Strong emphasis on record keeping and pedometer use as system development tools
    critical for weight loss maintenance.

Follow-up one hour support group classes

  • Rotating topics (nutrition, exercise, behavior change, medical)
  • Morning and evening classes available, depending on location
  • Patients on Rx weight loss medication must affend, on average, 2 classes monthly to
    qualify for Rx refills.

The To Life! Program offers treatment without judgment. There are no big promises made; there is, however, lots of hard work, good science, compassion, and motivation. We say that "small changes, over time, can produce big miracles," and we have demonstrated that.
